Wheeler is deeply committed to community improvement and education. He is involved in several charitable or not-for-profit organizations, and EC-United has supported multiple charitable organizations in the Chicago area. Wheeler has encouraged his team also to participate in and support worthy causes, including STEM programs.

Wheeler received a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from Northern Illinois University and an MBA from the University of Notre Dame. He resides in Chicago and is married with two adult children.
